On Saturday, September 21st, Pack 707 and Troop 742 united for a community service project at the West Dike Boat Ramp in Moncks Corner, as part of the Berkeley County Beach Sweep. With 10 Cub Scouts, 7 Troop Scouts, and 15 adult volunteers, the team worked hard to remove litter from the area, showing a strong commitment to preserving our local environment.
The Scouts and their families demonstrated the Scout spirit, wearing their pack & troop shirts and armed with trash grabbers, gloves, and reflective vests. With positive attitudes and a shared goal, the group collected an impressive 16 bags of trash, helping to keep the West Dike area clean for the community to enjoy.
Among the usual debris, there was one notable discovery—a canvas painting of Charleston’s Pineapple Fountain. The unexpected find sparked conversations and a few laughs among the group, adding a little bit of fun to the day’s work.
Despite the heat and humidity, everyone remained in great spirits, taking regular water breaks and encouraging one another. After a productive morning of litter removal, the Scouts and volunteers gathered at Overton Park for a catered lunch, generously provided by event organizers. It was a great opportunity for everyone to relax, reflect on their hard work, and enjoy some well-earned time together.
Not only did the participants gain a sense of accomplishment, but each Scout earned service hours and will be receiving a special Beach Sweep patch as a reminder of their efforts to keep our natural areas beautiful.
Thanks to everyone who participated and made this cleanup a success. Together, we made a difference!
